USA Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration (Sept 15-Oct 15, 2010)

Hispanic Heritage Month is the period to recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States and to celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture. Starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. “September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They all declared independence in 1821. In addition, Mexico, Chile and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18 and September 21, respectively.”

The 11th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be held on November 11, 2010 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Black Fashion Focus 2010 Showcase-Washington, DC

Black Fashion Focus 2010 Showcase to benefit Metro TeenAIDS
and Celebrate Emerging African-American Fashion Designers

The nation’s capitol has an HIV infection rate estimated at 1 in 20 persons. In an effort to curtail the meteoric rise of infections, the nation’s African-American fashion community responds with a benefit event to raise funds for a local youth health organization that is tackling the issue head-on. Black Fashion Focus 2010, to be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, is the merger of creativity and philanthropy to benefit Metro TeenAIDS.

Black Fashion Focus 2010 also shines the light on promising African-American fashion designers from across the United States. The evening’s showcase will feature designs from Dena Burton of Los Angeles, California; Essence Flowers of Tampa, Florida; Prajje Jean-Baptiste of Boston, Massachusetts; Travis Cal of Houston, Texas; and Kenny “Kas” Flanagan of Washington, D.C. In selecting the evening’s designers, considerable emphasis was placed on the broad appeal a designer’s collection exudes, as well as excellence in creative design.

Tickets for the event are $75 for general admission and $120 for VIP admission, and can be purchased at http://www.blackfashionfocus.com. Proceeds from the evening help to provide unrestricted funding for Metro TeenAIDS at a most critical time.

Coinciding with the Annual Legislative Conference of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the evening is sure to be a sell-out social gathering of movers-and-shakers, fashionistas and the socially conscious to support the dynamic work of Metro TeenAIDS.
